Biomining
▪ Biomining is a waste management strategy to excavate and process legacy waste (aged,
unsegregated landfill waste) to recover valuable resources like metals and plastics, convert organic matter into compost, and produce energy.
▪ It involves excavating old dumpsite waste, treating it to accelerate biological decomposition by
introducing microbes, and then mechanically segregating the materials using screens and
separators
