Cyclone Tej in Arabian Sea
- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that a low-pressure area has been developed over Arabian Sea which later developed into a depression and intensified into a cyclonic storm.
- It was named by India as ‘Tej’, based on the formula followed for naming cyclones in the Indian Ocean Region.
- It was derived from the sanskrit word ‘Tej’ meaning light
- Tej is the second Cyclonic Storm formed in Arabian Sea after cyclone Biparjoy.
Naming of Cyclones
- Named by – The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for the Asia Pacific (ESCAP) since 2000.
