UNESCO Heritage Status Proposal
▪ Maharashtra has submitted a proposal to UNESCO for World Heritage status for 12 forts associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
▪ Proposal Theme: The proposal is submitted under the concept of ‘Maratha Military Landscape of India’, highlighting the strategic and historical significance of the forts.
▪ The 12 forts in the proposal are :
✓ Maharashtra: Lohagad, Salher, Raigad, Rajgad, Pratapgad, Panhala, Shivneri, Sindhudurg, Suvarnadurg, Vijaydurg, Khanderi.
✓ Tamil Nadu: Gingee Fort
▪ Total UNESCO World Heritage sites in India – 43 ( 35 – cultural , 7 –natural , 1 – mixed )
