- Swedish teenager Greta Thunbergwas named as one of four winners of the 2019 Right Livelihood Award. The award is also known as Sweden’s alternative Nobel Prize.
- She was awarded for inspiring and amplifying political demands for urgent climate action reflecting scientific facts. The award was announced by the Right Livelihood Foundation.
- The awardees triggered a thirst to strive for a liveable future for all on planet Earth.

- Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg.
- Chinese women’s rights lawyer Guo Jianmei
- Davi Kopenawaof the Yanomami people, the Brazilian indigenous leader
- Western Sahara human rights defender Aminatou Haidar.
- The 4 laureates received a cash award of 1 million Swedish crowns($103,000) each.
Greta Thunberg:
- The 16-year-old denounced the world leaders for failing to tackle climate change in a speech at the start of a climate summit at the United Nations in New York. The climate activist started solitary weekly protests outside the Swedish parliament a year ago. Millions of young people were inspired by her and started to demand the governments that attended the summit to take emergency action.
