President Murmu launches warship Vindhyagiri
- President Droupadi Murmu launched INS Vindhyagiri, the last in the series of three Project 17A (Alpha) frigates built by the Indian Navy at the Kolkata based Garden Reach Ship builders and Engineers (GRSE).
- The launch was a step towards achieving the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat through indigenous shipbuilding.
Note
- Following the launch, Vindhyagiri will join its two sister ships at the Out-fitting Jetty at GRSE.
About Project 17 A
- Project 17 Alpha frigates (P-17A) were launched by the Indian Navy in 2019.
- To construct a series of indigenous stealth guided-missile frigates.
- Constructed by two companies – Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MDL) and Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE).
- The first stealth ship launched under Project 17A was the Nilgiri, which was launched in 2019.
- Specific stealth design has radar-absorbent coatings and is low-observable which can make its approach undetectable for the enemies.

Shooting World Championships
- The Indian squad warmed up with the men’s air pistol team bronze medal in the World Championship shooting in Baku, Azerbaijan.
- Shiva Narwal, Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema were together got the medal behind China and Germany.
Awards & Honours
2023 International Young Eco-Hero award
- Five youths from India have been named among 17 teen environmental activists from across the globe to receive the 2023 International Young Eco-Hero Award who have taken initiatives to tackle the world’s most pressing environmental challenges.
- The young eco-warriors who were recognised for their efforts by the US-based non-profit organisation, ‘Action For Nature’, are Eiha Dixit from Meerut, Manya Harsha from Bengaluru, Nirvaan Somany and Mannat Kaur from New Delhi and Karnav Rastogi from Mumbai.

- The International Young Eco-Hero Awards programme recognises and encourages children and teens from ages 8 to 16 who have taken action towards solving the most critical environmental issues.
