National Postal Day – October 10

  • The day is observed every year to raise awareness about the enduring role of the Indian Postal System, which has served the nation for over 150 years.
  •  India Post commences celebration of National Postal Week from 9th to 15th October.

Asian Games 2023

  • The 19th edition of Asian Games was in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8, 2023.
  • The Indian contingent list in the Asian Games is 921, including 655 athletes, 260 coaches, and support staff.
  • Mascots : Chenchen, Congcong, Lianlaian
  • India won 28 gold, 38 silver and 41 bronze with a total of 107 medals.

Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences 2023

  • American woman economist Claudia Goldin (77) has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences.
  • Contribution – For her research in understanding the participation of women in the labor market and the gender gap in the workplace.
  • She is third women to be awarded the noble for Economics.
  • Awarding Institution – Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences

About Nobel Prize

  • Ceremony date – 10 December 2023
  • First awarded – 1901
  • Categories – Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Peace. Memorial prize in economic sciences was added in 1968.
  • Reward – A gold-plated green gold medal, a diploma, and a monetary award of 11 million SEK.
  • Established by the Swedish inventor and businessman Alfred Nobel through his last will.
  • First Noble Prize Winner in India and Asia – Rabindranath Tagore for his work Geetanjali in 1913.
