150 years of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
▪ The government has invited officials from all countries, including Pakistan, that were once part of undivided India to mark 150 years of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
▪ Officials from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Nepal have been invited to join the celebrations. Representatives from the Middle East and Southwest Asia are also on the guest list.
▪ To make the celebrations memorable, the Ministry of Finance has approved a special ₹150 commemorative coin
▪ Founded in January 15, 1875 during the British era, Its creation came after a cyclone devastated Calcutta in 1864 and back-to-back monsoon failures in 1866 and 1871.

U.S. Sonobuoys
▪ India and the U.S. announced cooperation on co-production of U.S. sonobuoys for UnderseaDomain Awareness (UDA) for the Indian Navy, a high-end technology that allows tracking submarines in the deep seas and oceans.
▪ They will jointly supply(Ultra Marine and Bharat Dynamics Limited) and manufacture sonobuoys for the Indian Navy as per U.S. Navy standards, with production split across the U.S. and India, in accordance with ‘Make in India’ principles
▪ UDA encompasses the ability to monitor and understand activities in the underwater environment. It is vital for national security, especially in regions threatened by hostile naval forces
