Kalai Chemmal Award

  • The government’s Department of Arts and Culture presents the “Kalai Chemmal” award every year to talented artists in various categories including traditional and modern painting, sculpture, etc.
  • This award includes a copper plate, a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, and a certificate of appreciation.
  • Six artists have been selected for the Kalai Chemmal Award for the year 2024-25: Traditional Painting: A. Manivelu, Traditional Sculpture: V. Balachandar, K. Kanniyappan, Modern Painting: K. Muralidharan, A. Selvaraj, Modern Sculpture: N. Raghavan.

Kalaignar Ezhudhukol Award

  • The Chief Minister presented the 2023 award to journalists Nakkheeran R. Gopal and Sugitha Sarangaraj.
  • This award includes a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakhs each along with a certificate of appreciation.
  • The Tamil Nadu government has been presenting the Kalaignar Ezhudhukol Award since 2021.

Highest Award from Barbados to Prime Minister Modi

  • Prime Minister Modi has been honored with Barbados’ highest national award in recognition of his strategic leadership and valuable assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Since diplomatic relations began in 1966, India and Barbados have developed strong cooperation through continuous engagement and development efforts.
