First Female and African President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)
▪ On June 23, 2025, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) celebrated its 131st
anniversary.
▪ Kirsty Coventry, a former Olympic swimmer from Zimbabwe, was officially inaugurated as
the first female and first African IOC President.
▪ She is a two-time Olympic gold medallist in swimming and one of Zimbabwe’s most
celebrated athletes.
