Bomman unveiled as mascot for hockey Asian Champions Trophy
- Sports Development of Tamil Nadu, unveiled the mascot for the Hero Asian Champions Trophy Chennai 2023 at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Egmore.
- The mascot, named “Bomman,” takes inspiration from the Oscar-winning documentary “The Elephant Whisperers,” in which Bomman cares for orphaned baby elephant Raghu along with Bellie, both belonging to indigenous tribes in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu.
- The mascot features the majestic Asian elephant, an animal widely revered throughout the continent, representing qualities such as strength, intelligence, and teamwork.
Norwegian & Nepali become world’s fastest to climb all 14 tallest peaks
- In a world record achievement, Norwegian woman mountaineer Kristin Harila and Nepali guide Tenzen Sherpa set the record for the fastest summit of all 14 of the world’s 8,000-metre mountains on the globe in 92 days.
- There are only 14 mountains in the world which are over 8000m above sea level. They are known as the ”eight-thousanders‟.
- These mountains are all located in the Himalayan and Karakoram mountain ranges – across India, Nepal, Tibet (China) & Pakistan.
- The 14, 8000m+ mountain peaks are : Everest, K2, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Nanga Parbat, Annapurna I, Gasherbrum I, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum II and Shishapangma.
