Modernization of Courts: Supreme Court High-Level Committee

  • Background: Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has announced the formation of a high-level committee led by Justice Arvind Kumar of the Supreme Court. The committee is tasked with preparing a blueprint for modernizing courts nationwide and securing government funding between ₹40,000 to ₹50,000 crore for this initiative.

    • This is a Judicial Infrastructure Advisory Committee, a high-level expert group aimed at completely overhauling the physical and digital infrastructure of the Indian judiciary.
    • The committee includes senior judges from the Supreme Court and various High Courts, as well as top administrative and technical officials.
    • Established by: Supreme Court of India.
    • Deadline: The committee has been requested to submit its comprehensive report on findings and financial requirements to Sanjeev Sanyal by August 31 of this year.
