International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB)

  • IDB is celebrated on 22 May annually to commemorate the adoption of the text of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) .
  • Acting locally for global impact” is the theme of the 2026 edition of the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB).

    • Kerala stands as the first state in India to officially recognize Artificial Intelligence (AI) as an independent administrative department within the government structure, by establishing a dedicated department for it at the cabinet level.
    • Tamil Nadu has become the second state in India to create a Ministry of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

    The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025

    • Purpose of the Act
      • Aims to create clarity and balance in India’s online gaming sector.
      • It promotes innovation in e-sports and online social games while prohibiting online money games.
      • The Act clearly distinguishes between permissible and prohibited gaming activities.
    • Complete Ban on Online Money Games
      • All forms of online money games are banned.
      • The ban applies to: ,Games of chance, Games of skill, Any combination of skill and chance
    •   Ban on Promotion and Facilitation
      • Advertising online money games is prohibited.
      • Promotion and facilitation of such games are also banned.
    • Blocking of Illegal Platforms
      • Unlawful gaming platforms may be blocked under the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
    • Recognition of E-sports and Social Games
      • The Act officially recognizes:E-sports, Online social games
    • Creation of Regulatory Authority
      • The Act establishes the Online Gaming Authority of India.


    SWAYAM PORTAL

    • SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active–Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) is India’s dedicated MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) platform developed under the initiative of the Ministry of Education (MoE).
    • It was introduced in 2017.
    • The platform aims to reduce the digital gap by providing quality education to students who were previously unable to benefit from the digital revolution or become part of the knowledge-based economy.
    • SWAYAM is an indigenously created IT platform that enables learners to access courses taught from Class 9 to postgraduate level. These courses can be studied by anyone, anytime and from anywhere.
    • The courses available on the platform are interactive in nature and are designed by some of the country’s finest teachers. Moreover, all thae learning materials are provided free of cost to residents of India.
