World Children’s Day

  • UNICEF’s 2025 Theme: “My Day, My Rights” and “For Every Child, Every Right”
  • First observed in 1954.
  • 1959: UN adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child.
  • 1989: Adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) — the most widely ratified human rights treaty (196 countries).
  • India’s Children’s Day: November 14 (Birth Anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru)

India’s Achievement 

  • According to the National Multidimensional Poverty Index, India has helped 2.8 crore people, including children, move out of poverty between 2013-14 and 2022-23.
  • As a result, the country’s multidimensional poverty rate has declined from 29.2% to 11.3%.
  • Strong social sector investments drove major poverty reduction.
  • Key schemes contributing to progress: Poshan Abhiyan, Samagra Shiksha, PM-Kisan, Mid-Day Meal, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Swachh Bharat, Jal Jeevan Yojana.
  • India’s robust digital public infrastructure enabled efficient delivery of welfare services at scale.
