Election Commission of India (ECI)
▪ During the special revision of voter lists in Bihar, the Election Commission (EC) announced that people born after 1987 do not need to show their parents’ birth proof—if their parents’ names are already on the 2003 voter list.
About Election Commission of India (ECI)
▪ The Election Commission of India is a permanent and independent constitutional authority, established under Article 324 of the Indian Constitution.
▪ ECI is responsible for conducting elections to the Parliament, state legislatures, and the offices of the President and Vice President of India.
▪ The President of India appoints the Chief Election Commissioner and the two Election Commissioners.  They serve for a term not exceeding six years or until the age of 65, whichever is earlier.

New criminal laws
▪ One year after the new criminal laws replaced the old colonial-era laws in Tamil Nadu, the State government has sent its first list of suggested changes and is now preparing more such changes.
▪ Three new criminal laws Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS),
and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) are set to take effect from 1st July 2024, replacing the
colonial-era Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and Indian Evidence Act.
