Waqf
▪ The Central Government has announced the Integrated Waqf Administration (IWA) Governance, Efficiency and Development Rules 2025.
▪ A Waqf is a property donated by Muslims for a specific religious, charitable, or private purpose.
▪ Waqf properties are governed by the Waqf Act, of 1995, which replaced the Central Waqf Act, of 1954.
▪ Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, renamed as the UMEED Act, aims to address several challenges in the administration and management of Waqf properties.
▪ Central Waqf Council (CWC): A statutory body established in 1964, oversees and advises statelevel Waqf Boards across India.
▪ Waqf Boards act as custodians of Waqf properties in their respective states.
Indian diaspora
▪ Thirty-five million members of the Indian diaspora spread across the world.
▪ 6th generation Indian-origin citizens of Trinidad and Tobago will receive OCI cards.

About OCI Cardholders
▪ The OCI Scheme was introduced by amending the Citizenship Act, 1955 in 2005.
▪ Eligibility: Any foreign national, except a national of Pakistan or Bangladesh,
▪ OCI is not to be misconstrued as ‘dual citizenship’. OCI does not confer political rights to vote.
▪ Not eligible to hold Indian constitutional posts: President (Article 58); for election of VicePresident (Article 66); Judge of the Supreme Court (Article 124) and High Court (Article 217).
