Border Roads Organisation (BRO)

  • Context: Defence Minister inaugurated 125 Border Roads Organisation (BRO) infrastructure projects valued at ₹5,000 crore — marking the largest single-day project launch in the organisation’s history.

About Border Roads Organisation (BRO)

  • It is a premier road construction executive force under the Ministry of Defence responsible for developing and maintaining strategic infrastructure in India’s border areas and in friendly foreign countries.
  • Established on 7 May 1960.
  • BRO functions under the Border Roads Development Board (BRDB)
  • Headquarters: New Delhi
  • Aim: To meet the strategic needs of the Armed Forces through efficient, time-bound and high-quality infrastructure development. To support socio-economic development of remote border regions.

National Backward Classes Welfare Commission

  • Context: Madras High Court directs the Central Government to fill all vacant posts, including Vice Chairman, in the National Backward Classes Welfare Commission within 6 months.

About National Backward Classes Welfare Commission

  • It is a constitutional body under Article 338B, mandated to safeguard the rights and ensure the welfare of Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBCs).
  • Originally created under the NCBC Act, 1993, it gained constitutional status in 2018 through the 102nd Constitutional Amendment, which inserted Articles 338B and 342A.
  • Composition:
  • 5 members: Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, and three Members.
  • Appointed by the President of India by warrant under his hand and seal.
  • Members hold rank and pay equivalent to Secretary, Government of India.
  • Current Chairman of the National Backward Classes Welfare Commission: Shri Hansraj Gangaram Ahir
