- It has issued a Government Order formally notifying the formation of the State’s 38th district with Mayiladuthurai as its headquarters. The new district has been created after the bifurcation of Nagapattinam district.
- Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on 24 March announced the creation of a new district in Tamil Nadu by bifurcating Nagapattinam. “The government will be carving out Mayiladuthurai from Nagapattinam,” he had said. Mayiladuthurai will serve as the headquarters of the Mayiladuthurai district.
