The first district to be created after States were reorganised
- The first district created in Madras State after the Reorganisation of States was Dharmapuri in 1965.
- Historically known as Thagadoor, it became a new administrative unit with Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Hosur, and Harur taluks, all carved out of Salem district.
- In 2004, Dharmapuri was bifurcated to create Krishnagiri district.
Seven Tamil kings noted for generosity and charitable deeds
- Noted for their generosity and charitable deeds, the Kadai Ezhu Vallalgal were a group of seven kings of ancient Tamilagam mentioned in Sangam literary texts such as Sirupanatrupadai and Purananooru.
- These monarchs were called Velir and ruled small kingdoms.
- They were Pari, Ori, Kari, Athiyaman, Pegan, Aay, and Nalli.
The capital of the early Cholas is now a part of Tiruchi city
- Uraiyur (Woraiyur- part of Tiruchi city), was the capital of the early Cholas.
- Ashokan inscriptions in Odisha mention Uraiyur as the Chola capital.
- This ancient city, with its fortress and walls on the Cauvery’s southern bank, flourished during the Sangam Age.
- Excavations in the 1960s uncovered 20 fragmented potsherds.
Adavinainar Dam forms part of the Thamirabarani basin
- The Adavinainar Dam, at the foothills of the Western Ghats on the Kerala border, is built across the Hanumanadhi at Mekkarai in Tenkasi district.
- The picturesque dam is part of the Thamirabarani basin.
Just Transition Work Programme (JTWP)
- It is a UNFCCC initiative launched at COP27 (2022) and operationalised at COP28 (in 2023) through the Sharm el Sheikh Implementation Plan.
- It aims to ensure climate actions are fair, equitable, and aligned with national development goals, especially for workers and communities affected by moving away from fossil fuels.
