Tuberculosis (TB) incidence in India is declining by 21% per year
- India’s tuberculosis (TB) incidence, where new cases are emerging every year, has declined by 21%
- It has increased from 237 TB cases per lakh population in 2015 to 187 per lakh population in 2024,
- This is almost double the pace of decline observed globally, i.e. 12%, as per the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Tuberculosis Report 2025, the Union Health Ministry said in a statement.
- This is one of the highest declines in TB incidence globally.

- India’s flagship TB eradication programme, the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, has reached a comprehensive scale.
