44th Foundation Day celebrations of NABARD
▪ The 44th Foundation Day of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) was celebrated in Chennai.
▪ Announced collaboration between MSSRF and NABARD on the ‘Climate Smart Village’ initiative.
▪ This Pilot project launched in Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai districts, Tamil Nadu.
▪ Goals:
✓ Improve climate resilience for farmers and fishermen.
✓ Deal with weather fluctuations due to climate change.
✓ Focus on optimal use of natural resources.
✓ Encourage long-term planning in agricultural practices.
▪ Funds of over ₹50,000 crore had been disbursed in Tamil Nadu in the financial year 2024-25 for building infrastructure and agricultural refinance.
▪ This was the highest quantum of funds disbursed by NABARD to any State in the country.
Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards
▪ To ensure a level playing field and acknowledge consistent top performers like Indore (ranked No. 1 for 7 consecutive years), MoHUA introduced a new category- Super Swachh League (SSL) Cities.
▪ These SSL cities were excluded from regular rankings to promote fairness and encourage emerging cities.
▪ For the first time, city classification based on population was introduced, enabling fair comparison and
targeted improvement across Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).
▪ Cities were ranked in 5 categories:
✓ Very Small Cities (< 20,000)
✓ Small Cities (20,000 – 50,000)
✓ Medium Cities (50,000 – 3 lakh)
✓ Big Cities (3 – 10 lakh)
✓ Million Plus Cities (> 10 lakh)
