Kishtwar Saffron from J&K receives GI tag

  • Kishtwar Saffron brand, which is cultivated and harvested in the Kishtwar Region of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), has received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
  • The GI tag is regulated by the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act of 1999.

 

MGNREGS audit crosses 50% local bodies in just six States

  • According to the data sourced from the Management Information System (MIS) on Social Audit maintained by the Union Ministry of Rural Development, only six States and Union Territories of the total 34 have completed social audit of works done under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
  • Kerala is the only State to cover 100% gram panchayats.
  • Section 17 of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) says that the gram sabha “shall monitor the execution of works”.
