Centre regulates ethanol production

- The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution directed sugar mills and distilleries not to use sugarcane juice or syrup to produce ethanol in the ethanol year 2023-2024.
- The Department of Food and Public Distribution monitors production, sale and stock of sugar in India to ensure sufficient availability for local consumption at stable prices by implementing the Sugar (Control) Order.
- India is aiming at 20% ethanol blending by 2025-2026 ethanol year.
Garba declared as Intangible Cultural Heritage
- Garba of Gujarat was declared as Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) by UNESCO.
- It is a dance form that is performed during festival of Navratri in Gujarat.
- Garba is the 15th ICH site from India to join the list.
