Tur Dal Procurement under Price Support Scheme
▪ The Union Ministry of Agriculture has informed that 1.31 lakh tonnes of tur dal (pigeon pea) have been procured during the 2024-25 Kharif season under this scheme.
▪ Approval was granted for the procurement of 13.22 lakh tonnes of tur dal across 9 states: Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh.
MSP (Minimum Support Price)
▪ MSP was first proposed in 1966, inspired by the Green Revolution.
▪ Government responsibility: Maintaining MSP every year to control the prices of important agricultural commodities.
▪ Kharif and Rabi crops: MSP equally affects both these crops.
