Khelo India Tribal Games
- Context: The first edition of the Khelo India Tribal Games is taking place in Chhattisgarh, with events hosted in three cities—Raipur, Jagdalpur, and Sarguja. The competition is being over a period of ten days.
About Khelo India Tribal Games
- This marks the first nationwide multi-sport event under the Khelo India Programme that is exclusively focused on tribal athletes.
- The Games include seven medal disciplines athletics, football, hockey, weightlifting, archery, swimming, and wrestling along with demonstration events like mallakhamb and kabaddi.
- More than 60,000 participants from 30 states and Union Territories are competing for a total of 338 medals.
- The event also acts as a talent scouting platform, with a dedicated Talent Identification and Development Committee (TIDC) tasked with identifying promising athletes for advanced training and support under the Khelo India initiative.
Mascot
- The official mascot is Morveer, a name formed from the Chhattisgarhi words “Mor” (meaning ‘our’) and “Veer” (meaning ‘brave’), symbolising a sense of belonging and courage.
