Council Meeting of NITI Aayog
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the Eighth Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog on May 27, 2023.
- Objective – “Viksit Bharat (Developed India)” in 2047.
- Mr. Modi chaired the meeting which was attended by CMs and Lieutenant Governors representing 19 States and Six Union Territories.
- NITI Aayog play a critical role in helping the States to develop their strategies.
Achievement
- Mission Amrit Sarovar, With a view to conserve water for the future. Around 50,000 Amrit Sarovar constructed in the country.

- Before NITI Aayog, there was a Planning Commission formed on 15 March 1950.
First Digital Census
- Home Minister Amit Shah, on May 22, 2023 inaugurated the new Janganana Bhavan (Census building) in New Delhi, and released a report, “The Treatise on Indian Censuses Since 1981”.
- The government announced the first digital Census giving citizens an opportunity to “self-enumerate”.
About Census
- India has conducted the Census every 10 years since 1881, but in 2020, the decennial exercise for Census 2021 had to be postponed due to the pandemic.
