Bharat NCAP: India to get its own car crash testing programme
- The Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP) is an indigenous car testing programme where the car manufacturers can volunteer to get their models tested under an and get a star rating indicating their safety in a crash.
- Bharat NCAP is modelled on the Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP).
- A rating between one to five stars will be assigned to a vehicle after an evaluation of three parameters.
- Adult occupant protection
- Child occupant protection
- Safety assist technologies present in the car.
- The test results will be approved by the Bharat NCAP Standing Committee and published on its website.
- The Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT) will issue a certificate.
