Second WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine
- The second WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine will be held in New Delhi from December 17 to 19.
- The Summit is being co-hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
- Theme: ‘Restoring Balance: The Science and Practice of Health and Well-Being’.
- The primary aim is to build a 10-year global roadmap for integrating indigenous medicine into national health systems.
Deepavali on UNESCO Heritage List
- Deepavali has been inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
- The announcement was made during the 20th session of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee at, New Delhi.
- Purpose: Safeguard living cultural heritage.
- Intangible cultural heritage means the practices, representations, expressions, knowledge and skills that communities, groups and individuals recognize as a part of their cultural heritage.
- India currently has 16 elements on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, including Durga Puja in Kolkata, Garba of Gujarat, Kumbh Mela, Yoga, Sankirtana (Manipur), Vedic chanting, and Ramlila.
