NATIONAL SCHEMES

Kavach System
 Kavach is a Train Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), a train control system with collision
prevention features.
 It has been adopted as India’s national automatic train protection system.
 The system adheres to safety interoperability standards.
 Acting like a “vigilant guardian” over the existing signaling system, Kavach alerts the Loco Pilot if the train approaches a red signal, and, if necessary, automatically applies brakes to prevent a signal overshoot.
 In emergency situations, the system can send SoS (Save Our Soul) messages.
 It also provides centralized real-time monitoring of train operations through the Network Monitor System.
 The Indian Railways Signal Engineering and Telecommunication Kavach Centre of Excellence is located in Secunderabad, Telangana.
 Currently, the Kavach train protection system has been installed in 1,200 train rakes.
