New Law to Strengthen Drug Quality Testing
 The Central Government plans to introduce a new draft legislation titled the Drugs, Medical Devices and Cosmetics Bill, 2025 during the upcoming winter session of Parliament.
 This new law is intended to replace the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1947, aligning India’s drug regulatory standards with international norms.

 This Bill has been designed to replace the existing framework established in 1940, with the aim of ensuring the quality and safety of drugs and medical devices.
Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940
 The Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 regulates the quality, safety, and standards of drugs, cosmetics, and medical devices in India.
 It serves as the foundation of drug regulation in India, overseeing quality control, manufacturing, and marketing.
 This Act, officially titled the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, was followed by the Drugs and
Cosmetics Rules, 1945.
 Its objective is to ensure the quality, safety, production, and sale of drugs, cosmetics, and medical equipment.
 It enforces regulatory mechanisms to guarantee consumer protection and product quality assurance.
