Gaganyaan Mission
 ISRO is actively working to implement India’s dream project, Gaganyaan, by 2027, which aims to send humans into space, according to its chairman V. Narayanan.
 Over 80,000 tests have been conducted so far, and three rockets are to be launched for testing purposes.
 Globally, India currently contributes about 2% to the commercial use of rockets for space launches.
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)
 India was driven to develop its own launch vehicles during the 1960s and 1970s.
 As a result, ISRO was established in 1969 with its headquarters in Bengaluru.
 In 1975, India’s first satellite, Aryabhata, was built by ISRO and launched by the Soviet Union.
 In 1980, India launched its first satellite Rohini using an indigenous launch vehicle. Later, ISRO developed two major launch vehicles—PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) for polar orbits and GSLV (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle) for geostationary orbits.
 Its major milestone was the launch of Chandrayaan-1 in 2008, India’s first mission to the Moon.
 ISRO operates through five research centres, two testing facilities, five construction and launch centres, four control centres, two human resource development units, and one commercial branch.
