Govt – Welfare oriented Govt schemes, their utility
Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasised
▪ The first passenger rail service in India was started in 1853
▪ In 1890, the Railways Act was enacted

The Railway Board Act was passed in 1905.
▪ Now the government has decided to merge the Indian Railways Board Act, 1905 with the Railways Act, 1989 into the one unified law — the Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024.
Railways Act, 1989
▪ Governs the functioning and administration of the Indian Railways.
▪ Includes provisions for organizing the Railways into zones for administrative convenience.
Indian Railway Board Act, 1905
▪ Established the Railway Board as the central authority to oversee Indian Railways.
▪ Allows the central government to delegate its powers and functions concerning Railways to the Board.
Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024
▪ Seeks to repeal the 1905 Act.
▪ Aims to integrate the provisions related to the Railway Board into the 1989 Act.
Objective: Streamline the legal framework and eliminate the need to refer to two separate laws
