Waqf Amendment Bill – Central Government
▪ A meeting of the committee examining the Waqf Amendment Bill was held in Delhi.
▪ In this, 32 amendment recommendations proposed by ruling party MPs were accepted.
▪ However, more than 500 amendments proposed by opposition parties were rejected.
▪ This bill contains certain amendments for managing Waqf properties.
▪ It includes a recommendation that Muslim women and non-Muslim individuals should be able to become members of the Waqf Board.
▪ It indicates that four authorized non-Muslim individuals can be included on the board, Waqf properties should be registered before the new law takes effect, and only those who have followed Islam for 5 years will be given the authority to create Waqf.
22,931 Smart Classrooms in Government Schools
▪ The Tamil Nadu government had set a target of establishing 22,931 smart classrooms, and this target has now been achieved.
▪ Through this initiative, 22,931 smart classrooms have been set up in government schools, enabling students to easily understand lessons through various formats including pictures, audio, and video.
▪ In the first phase, 634 smart classrooms were established in 493 schools across six districts: Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Salem, Thiruvarur, and Villupuram.
