National Health Policy (NHP) target
- Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR): India has achieved the National Health Policy (NHP) target of 100 deaths per lakh live births.
- Decline in MMR: India saw an 83% decline in MMR (1990-2020), surpassing the global decline.
- Infant Mortality Rate (IMR): India recorded a 69% reduction in IMR from 1990 to 2020, which is higher than the global decline of 55%.
- Under-5 Mortality Rate: India witnessed a 75% decline, compared to the global decline of 58%.
- Tamil Nadu’s Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) has been dropped to 39.4 from 45.5 per one lakh live births during 2023-24.
- The Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) has been reduced from 8.2 per 1,000 live births to 7.7.
