Govt. unveils action plan to make city carbon neutral
- The Tamil Nadu government released Chennai’s first Climate Action Plan (CAP), which has been designed to serve as a roadmap for the city to become carbon neutral by 2050, two decades before the nation’s target of net zero by 2070.
- Released by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin at the Secretariat.
- The action plan will focus on six priority areas such as electrical grid and renewable energy, building energy, sustainable transport, solid waste management, urban flooding and water scarcity, vulnerable populations and health.
- By 2050, the city aims to achieve electrification of 100% of the MTC bus fleet, expanding urban nature to cover 35% of the city, and retrofitting existing slum housing for heat resilience to become carbon neutral.
- The CAP was developed with support from C40 Cities and the Urban Management Centre, Ahmedabad.
Note:
- Aligns with the Paris Climate Accords, setting emission reduction targets of 1% increase by 2030, 40% decrease by 2040 and achieve net zero by 2050, compared to 2018-19 emission levels.
Mobile app to secure documents launched in TN
- The Nambikkai Inaiyam (Blockchain Backbone) of the Tamil Nadu with e-Pettagam citizen wallet mobile application was launched by the Minister for information technology and digital services Palanivel Thiaga Rajan.
- The Initiative would allow residents and businesses from Tamil Nadu to share their digitised documents in a secure manner for verification by employers, higher education institutions, government entities, banks, and other agencies.
In the first phase
- TNeGA would secure community certificates, income certificates, first graduate certificates, academic certificates, and mark sheets from the members of the public.
- Residents would be able to choose to securely share the documents through e-mail, and short messaging services through the e-Pettagam application.
Policemen get tablets for e-beat patrolling
- Commissioner of Greater Chennai Police Shankar Jiwal launched the e-beat patrolling system of the Smart Kavalar app by distributing 408 tablets to police officials at a function at the headquarters in the city.
- The tablets would help the personnel quickly access the case details and for registering of details pertaining to investigation of cases, audio and video recordings of the case details along with uploading of photographs of the accused, and any information related to the cases.
- The tablets, which have been pre-loaded with the several technology initiatives comprising Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems, face recognition system app, Vaahan app and e-challan app, would help the police perform the routine task in an efficient manner.
- The tablets pre-loaded with the e-beat system of the Smart Kavalar app would help the senior police officials to monitor the location of the patrolling team.
