Periodic Labour Force Survey
▪ Released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme implementation.
▪ Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) for women dropped in both rural (from 36.9% to 35.2%) and urban areas (from 25.3% to 25%) in June.
▪ National LFPR for people aged 15+ fell from 54.8% in May to 54.2% in June, attributed to
seasonal agricultural shifts and intense summer heat.
▪ The overall unemployment rate for female and male of all ages above 15 remained at 5.6% in
June, with a slight decline for females (by 0.1%) and no change for males.
▪ Share of rural women in agriculture fell from 70.2% in May to 69.8% in June, indicating less
agricultural engagement, possibly due to declining rural inflation.
▪ For men aged 15+, LFPR slightly declined in rural (78.3% to 78.1%) and urban (75.1% to 75%) areas.
Best Cities for Students: Chennai Ranks 128th
▪ Chennai has moved up 12 places to rank 128th in the QS list of best cities for students wishing to study abroad.
▪ The ranking is published by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a global higher education analysis institute based in London, UK.
▪ Seoul, the capital of South Korea, is ranked 1st, overtaking London.
▪ London, which topped the list for 6 consecutive years, has dropped to 3rd place.
▪ Other Indian cities’ rankings:
✓ Mumbai: Up 15 places to 98th
✓ Delhi: Up 7 places to 104th
✓ Bangalore: Up 22 places to 108th
