‘Swachh Survekshan’ cleanliness survey
Introduced to promote new cities in cleanliness rankings
Million-plus cities (Population > 10 lakh)
1st – Ahmedabad, Gujarat (Cleanest Million-Plus City)
2nd – Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh
3rd – Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh
3 to 10 lakh population category
1st – Mira-Bhayandar, Maharashtra
2nd – Bilaspur, Madhya Pradesh
3rd – Jamshedpur, Jharkhand
Indore, Surat, Navi Mumbai, and Vijayawada entered the newly introduced ‘Super Swachh
League’, which recognises sustained excellence in cleanliness among cities, in the “million-plus
population” category.
A total of 23 cities were inducted into this league, with Noida, Chandigarh, and Mysore, among others, entering the “3 lakh to 10 lakh population” category.
New Delhi made the cut in the “50,000 to 3 lakh population” category.
The award for the ‘Best Ganga Town’ went to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.
Secunderabad Cantonment in Telangana was named the Cleanest Cantonment Board.
Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), and Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) were declared ‘Best Safaimitra Surakshit Shehar’ for their commitment to the safety and dignity of sanitation workers.
