Public Awareness & General Administration 3 Town Panchayats Upgraded to Municipalities; Order Published in Government Gazette 
Three town panchayats in Tamil Nadu have been upgraded to municipalities, and the order has been published in the government gazette. Local bodies are upgraded to town panchayats, municipalities, and corporations based on population size and revenue criteria. The three upgraded town panchayats are: Sriperumbudur (Kanchipuram District), Mamallapuram (Chengalpattu District), and Thiruvaiyaru (Thanjavur District). The order was issued by the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department.
