National Safety Day was first observed in 1972 to mark the foundation day of the National Safety Council of India (NSC), which was established in 1966 by the Ministry of Labour and Employment. The objective was to raise awareness about industrial safety and reduce accidents in factories, construction sites, and other hazardous workplaces.
