General Awareness and Public Opinion Centre unveils tradeable Green Credit The government has introduced a special programme allowing an individual or entity to earn Green Credit and trade it on a dedicated exchange. It is being launched at the national level. It aims to leverage a competitive market based approach for incentivising environmental actions. To obtain credits one needs to register the activity via a website It will cover 8 types of activities, including Tree plantation Water management Sustainable agriculture. Waste management Air pollution reduction Mangrove conservation and restoration It is a follow-up action of the ‘LiFE’ (Lifestyle for Environment) campaign. Note Green Credit: Unit of an incentive provided for specified activities that deliver a positive impact on the environment. The Green credit under the programme is independent of the carbon credit provided under the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme, 2023 under the Energy Conservation Act, 2001.
