Mahadevan as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court. ▪ The present Chief Justice Sanjay V. Gangapurwala is set to retire. Note ▪ The Chief Justice and Judges of the High Courts are appointed by the President under Article 217 of the Constitution of India. ▪ They are appointed by the President after consultation with the Chief Justice of India and the Governor of the state concerned
