In a development, the State government is now looking at a new site, between Cheyyar and Kancheepuram, for Chennai’s second airport. The site is around 75 km from the existing airport, and it will take nearly two and-a-half hours by road.

100 airports to be developed by 2025 for UDAN Scheme
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced 100 more airports will be developed by 2025 to support the UDAN Scheme, aimed at better regional connectivity. Sitharaman announced ` 1.7 lakh crore had been provided for transport infrastructure in 2020-21. 150 trains would run under the public private partnership (PPP) mode. Four stations would be redeveloped with the help of the private sector.
