CM breakfast scheme to be extended The state government has issued orders to extend the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme to 31,008 government schools functioning in corporations, municipalities, town panchayat, and panchayat areas. The government has also allocated Rs. 404.41 crore to extend the benefits of the scheme which is already under implementation in the financial year 2023-24. Former State finance minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan had announced in the State Assembly on March 20, 2023, that the scheme would be expanded to 30,122 schools in which 18 lakh students would benefit and Rs.500 crore would be allocated for the same. The government has instructed officials to ensure that the students are provided locally grown millet-based breakfast at least twice a week. Alanganallur Jallikattu stadium Over 35 per cent of the construction of the mega Jallikattu stadium at Keelakarai village near Alanganallur is over, said minister of Public Works, Highways and Minor Ports EV Velu after inspecting the work. The sporting arena of the much awaited Jallikattu stadium, which is the first of its kind facility in Tamil Nadu, is coming up on a sprawling 77,683 sq ft near Alanganallur. The state government had allocated Rs 44.6 crore and 66 acres were acquired for the facility. As per the contract agreement, December 17, 2023 was fixed as the deadline for the stadium completion.
