Environment and Ecology Asiatic Lions ▪ The Forest Department in Gujarat has started translocating spotted deer (cheetal) and sambar deer from Gir Forest to the Barda Wildlife Sanctuary (BWS). ▪ This move aims to augment the population of prey for Asiatic lions in the wildlife sanctuary. ▪ Barda Wildlife Sanctuary is also located in Gujarat which around 100 kilometers far from Gir Forest. Note ▪ Six Asiatic lions have migrated from Gir Forest to the Barda Wildlife Sanctuary (BWS) in 2023. ▪ In India, Asiatic Lions are found only in Gir Wildlife Sanctuary so far. ▪ IUCN Status – Vulnerable
