While the world marked World Cancer Day on February 4, 2020, the World Health Organization released its report on Cancer. Highlights According to the report, the cancer cases will increase by 81% by 2040. This is mainly due to lack of investment. The report says that it is essential to invest 25 billion USD in the next decade to save millions of lives. The treatment for cancer in developed countries has brought down the mortality rate due to cancer by 20%. However, in poorer countries the reduction was merely 5%. The report also says that 25% of cancer deaths were due to tobacco consumption. Tobacco in India According to WHO, there are 120 million smokers in India. This is 12% of world smoker. The number of tobacco smokers in India grew by 36% between 1998 and 2015.
