5,035 children children get cochlear implants under CMCHIS’ As many as 5,035 children have undergone cochlear implant surgeries at a cost of Rs.358.44 crore under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS). Golden Jubilee of upgraded Ear, Nose and Throat Department at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai. The Department of Otorhinolaryngology was started in 1927 under the leadership of Dr. Cherian.  In 1972, the department was elevated to the status of a Treatment Facility and the golden jubilee is being celebrated to mark 50 years. In 2010, the cochlear implant program was launched by the then Chief Minister Karunanidhi.  It is now linked to the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme. Various advanced treatments include all advanced tests for hearing, speech lab for computerized voice analysis, treatment center for vertigo, sleep lab, polysomnography for snoring, endoscopy test for swallowing disorders, narrow band imaging for early detection of laryngeal cancer. Naan Mudhalvan Scheme  MoUs were signed with 6 industrial companies to provide training to engineering and polytechnic students while studying under the 'Naan Mudhalvan' project. 1,560 students will benefit from this agreement through 6 institutions namely Mando India (Sriperumbudur), VVDN Technologies  (Pollachi), Sri Kannapiran Mills Limited (Coimbatore, Madurai, Perundurai), KG Group of Mills, Lakshmi Machine Works (Coimbatore), Gabriel India (Villupuram, Hosur). About Naan Mudhalvan Scheme Launched on March 1, 2022. The scheme was launched as a skill development program for the students of Government Schools and Colleges. TN Government also launched the ‘Kalloori Kanavu’ programme under the ‘Naan Mudhalvan’ initiative which aims to guide and counsel students who have completed Class XII.
