Foundation stone laid for Southeast Asia’s largest desalination plant Foundation stone was laid for the construction of a new desalination plant at Perur at a cost of ₹4,276.44 crore. It will have a capacity to treat 400 million litres of seawater per day. The plant will be the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia. The project will be executed by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) with funding support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Note Chennai has two fully functional desalination plants in Minjur, Nemmeli.
