Anji Khad Bridge ▪ The Indian Railways has unveiled a monumental engineering achievement with the completion of the Anji Khad Bridge, ▪ IT IS India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge. ▪ IT IS Situated in the challenging terrain of the Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir, this bridge is a key component of the ambitious Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) Project. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has introduced new regulations for the appointment and promotion of teachers in higher education. ▪ The UGC draft has given the powers to Chancellors or Visitors to constitute the three-member search-cum-selection committee to appoint Vice-Chancellors. ▪ The guidelines also warn that non-implementation of it may result into debarring an institution from participating in UGC schemes or from offering degree programmes. ▪ So far, the governments used to constitute the search committees for appointing ViceChancellors, and if approved, the draft allows Governors (if they are Chancellors) to appoint the search committees for the process. Free Medical Treatment ▪ It has been announced that the scheme providing free treatment to those injured in road accidents will be expanded across the country by March 2025. ▪ To reduce the number of fatalities in highway accidents, the Ministry of Road Transport implemented the free treatment scheme on March 14 last year. ▪ A scheme was announced to provide free treatment up to Rs. 1.5 lakhs for those injured in road accidents. ▪ In 2024 alone, 1.80 lakh people lost their lives in road accidents. ▪ If police are informed within 24 hours of a road accident, the injured person will receive 7 days of free treatment. ▪ Families of those killed by unidentified vehicles will be given compensation of Rs. 2 lakhs
