Environment and Ecology Aravalli Green Wall Project Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav inaugurated the 'Aravalli Green Wall Project' in Tikli village of Gurugram district, Haryana.  The Aravalli Green Wall Project aims to green a buffer area of about 5 km of the Aravalli mountain range spread over five states. The Aravalli Green Wall Project will not only increase the green cover and biodiversity of Aravalli through afforestation, reforestation and restoration of water sources, but will also improve soil fertility, water availability and climate of the region.

Miscellaneous 'Earth Hour': Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The event is held annually, encouraging individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights, for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m on the last Saturday of March, as a symbol of commitment to the planet.

Environment and Ecology As many as 246 vultures were spotted in the first-ever synchronised survey conducted along the borders of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka on February 25 and 26. The estimation was carried out in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) and the adjoining landscape consisting of the Sathya Mangalam Tiger Reserve (STR) in Tamil Nadu, the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary (WWS) in Kerala, the Bandipur Tiger Reserve (BTR) and the Nagerhole Tiger Reserve (NTR) in Karnataka. A total of 98 vultures were seen in MTR, two in STR, 52 in WWS, 73 in BTR, and 23 in NTR.   

NATURAL DISASTERS - SAFEGUARD MEASURES The Prime Minister on March 03 inaugurated the third session of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR) in New Delhi. Gujarat was the first state that came out with the State Disaster Management Act in 2001.  The then central government enacted the Disaster Management Act on the basis of this act. After that, the National Disaster Management Authority came into existence. ABOUT NPDRR:  NPDRR is a Multi- Stakeholder platform con-stituted by the Government of India to facilitate dialogue, sharing experiences, views, ideas, action-oriented research & explore opportunities in the area of Disaster Risk Reduction.

Geography  Natural disasters Forest Fires Burning In 142 Spots in Odisha, Highest In Country With rain eluding Odisha since October, forest fires are raging in 142 places in various districts of the state, which is the highest in the country on Tuesday, a senior official said. According to the Forest Survey of India (FSI) data, 391 active fire incidents were reported from across the country by 12 noon during the day. Forest fires may start from natural causes such as lightning strikes or when dry tree branches rub against each other during high wind. They can also be man-made when burnt stubs of cigarettes and bidis are thrown away on dry leaves. The FSI data said 12 of the 30 districts of Odisha reported forest fire incidents on Tuesday. Miscellaneous  Sagasahi, a remote village in Odisha’s tribal dominated Sundergarh district has become a model in the state as the entire village is electrified by solar energy.
