The Central government after exercising its power conferred under clause (iii) of section 3 of Government securities Act 2006has launched a new series of the Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) Scheme namely “Sovereign Gold Bond 2020-21” which is to be issued by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in six tranches from April 2020 to September 2020 i.e. in first half of FY 20-21. Their sale will be restricted to resident individuals, HUFs, Trusts, Universities and Charitable Institutions. These bonds will fetch a fixed interest rate of 50% per annum which will be taxable under Income Tax Act, 1961. On the other hand, capital gains tax arising on redemption of SGB to an individual has been exempted.

Government to release the report of 100 Smarts Cities in June 2020
The Government of India (GoI) is to release the report card of 100 selected smartcities in June, 2020 as the Smart Cities Mission completes its five year. This report will be released in three categories, namely ease of living index, municipal performance index and climatic index. Key Points: On June 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Smart Cities Mission with the mission to develop 100 Smart Cities across the country. Ease of Living index: Under this index 35 percent weightage will be given “to quality of life”, 20 percent to “sustainability”, 20 percent to “economic viability” and 30 percent to “citizen participation”. Municipal Performance index: Under this index 30 percent weightage will be given for “services”, 20 percent for “finance”, 15 percent for “technology”, 15 percent for “planning”, 20 percent for “governance”. Climatic index: Under this index cities will be ranked for promoting environment related issues.
Government of India has decided to sell 100 per cent stake of Air India
Civil Aviation Minister of India and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in India Hardeep Singh Puri has expressed the Indian Government’s decision to sell its 100 per cent stake ofAir India (AI). It includes its 100 per cent stake in low-cost airline Air India Express and 50 per cent shareholding in joint venture AISATS Airport Services Private Limited. Key Points: The deadline for submitting the interest to bid Air India is March 17,2020 .The net worth of the parties interested in bidding for Air India should be Rs 3,500 crore.
GoI to confer first “Antarrashtriya Yoga Diwas Media Samman’
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will confer “Antarrashtriya Yoga Diwas Media Samman” to 30 media houses. The aim of the award is to acknowledge positive role of media in disseminating outreach of Yoga. Highlights The awards are to be provided in the categories of Best Media Coverage of Yoga in Television (8 awards), Best Media Coverage of yoga in Radio (11 awards), Best Media Coverage of Yoga in Newspapers (11 awards). The awards were announced for the first time in June 2019. GoI has been pushing Yoga practices since 2014. In September 2014,during his United Nations General Assembly address proposed the idea of celebrating International Yoga Day every year. A resolution was passed by the UN following this and now International Day of Yoga is being celebrated every year on 21 June.
