Important Days June 2 – Telangana Formation Day The state of Telangana was officially formed on 2nd June 2014. Background After India's Independence (1947), the govt requested the Nizam of Hyderabad to join the Indian Union, to which he refused. In 1948, the Indian army annexed Hyderabad. Finally, Hyderabad State acceded to the Indian Union. In 1953, the States Re-organisation Commission was appointed. In 1956, the Hyderabad State was dissolved as part of the Linguistic Re-organisation of States and Telangana was merged with the Telugu-speaking Andhra State to form Andhra Pradesh. On 2 June 2014, the Telangana area was separated from the northwestern part of Andhra Pradesh as the newly formed state with Hyderabad as its capital.
